There are lots
of aspects to consider while you are staying in Cancun, one of the biggest
issues that people find is, the transportation. This blog is dedicated for all
those people who want to solve their problems and want to find tips and hints
for Cancun's transportation.
This blog
contains the cheapest way of transport, the bus routes, the taxi fares and
more.
BUSES
They are absolutely the most economical way of transportation in Cancun, since you can
travel almost everywhere by just paying 8.5 pesos.
TIP: Pay as close as 8.5 pesos, since the bus driver barely gives you change, if you give him 9 pesos, it's possible that you won't receive any change. (4 cents)
Routes R1, R2, R15 and R27 travel through the Hotel Zone and have
different routes, but if you are travelling to Wet n’ Wild, take a look at the
front part of the bus, because not all the buses go all the way to that place.
The R2 and R15 routes go to Walmart and Market 28 (Downtown Cancun) and the R27 route will take you to Plaza Las Américas.
The R1 route takes you to Puerto Juarez, where you can take the ferry to Isla Mujeres. If you want to see the ferries’ timetables and places of departure, go to Cancun FAQ, hints, tips and advice main website for more information.
There are many buses with conditioned air, if you are lucky you will catch one of those and it costs the same than any other bus (8.5 pesos)

Note: Some bus routes are different, for example the R1 bus has four different routes, you should pay attention to the front part of the bus (windshield) and see if that route is convenient for you.
While you pay your
ticket to the driver, tell him the name of the place where you are going, and
remember to keep it easy and simple, since almost all bus drivers do not speak English.
TIP: Sit near to the bus driver and pay attention
to the outside, the bus drivers often forget many things, have an idea of where
you are going.
TAXIS
Catching a taxi is
one of the most common and safe ways to travel in Cancun, but they can often
steal your money by charging more than they should, this part is dedicated to publish
the most common fares within the most traveled areas.
Here are some
tips that can be very useful during your stay in Cancun:
The cheapest taxis are the ones that you catch in the street, if you don't mind to pay a little more for one taxi then you can tell your hotel's recepcionist or concierge to call you a taxi.
The cheapest taxis are the ones that you catch in the street, if you don't mind to pay a little more for one taxi then you can tell your hotel's recepcionist or concierge to call you a taxi.
If you want, you
can call to the next phone number: 840-0651 or 840-3746, they only speak spanish and they can delay 5 minutes
or more to answer the phone.
ADVICE: The capacity for a taxi is 4 people without
luggage and 3 people with luggage.
The minimum
rate Downtown for a taxi that you catch on the street is 30 pesos (2.5 USD) and
if you call a taxi the minimum rate is 45 or 50 pesos (4 USD aprox.)
Don't pay more
than it costs. The taxi fares in the Hotel Zone goes from 50 to 80 pesos
depending on the distance traveled, if you want to go downtown the prices will
go up (don’t be scared).
TIP: Before you get in the taxi ask how much will it cost you and arrange the
price of your travel, so you don't get surprised by the taxi driver at the end
of it.
All of
the taxis are white with green stripes and have a number on them.
Always be careful with suspicious taxis and taxi drivers. The
safest way is always to tell your hotel's concierge to call you a taxi from
your hotel's lobby.
